Kua Number vs House Facing in Eight Mansions Feng Shui

Separate a personal Kua number from a house trigram: calculate the birth-based group, convert an outward-facing bearing into the sitting direction, and compare both without confusing compass geometry with Luo Shu numerology.

Keep the two questions separate

Eight Mansions uses two related but different inputs. Your personal Kua, also called Ming Gua, comes from the birth year, the gender category used by the table and the site's Li Chun boundary. The house Gua comes from the building's sitting direction, which is opposite the outward-facing bearing. Changing the house bearing changes the house comparison; it does not recalculate your personal Kua.

The Kua number is a table index for this method. It is not a numerology score, a ranking and not a promise about health, wealth or relationships. This tutorial also does not turn compass degrees into a Luo Shu prediction. The compass layer is a modern geometric conversion used to locate a direction and a 24-Mountain position. Keep that measurement layer separate from the Eight Mansions classification layer.

Use a measured outward-facing bearing

For the fixed, site-authored example, open Calculation settings and choose Place adjustment so the north-reference and measurement-uncertainty controls are visible. Enter Gregorian date 1990-06-15, Male, optional time 12:00, time zone Asia/Shanghai, True north, outward-facing bearing 90 degrees and measurement uncertainty 0. This calculator asks for a measured outward-facing bearing; it does not ask for a longitude field. The date is well after the Li Chun boundary, so this example does not depend on a missing birth time.

The independent Kua oracle returns palace 1, Kua Kan and the East group. The independent compass oracle places 90 degrees at the Mao mountain and the East trigram position, then places the opposite sitting direction at 270 degrees, the You mountain and the Dui trigram position. The Dui house belongs to the West group. The calculator reports the same structure in its user-facing terms: a You mountain, Mao facing, Dui house, West group, and a personal-house mismatch.

The example is useful because the two labels do not coincide. Your personal result remains Kua 1, Kan, East group. The house result is Dui, West group. “Personal” answers one question about birth data; “house” answers another question about measured orientation. Do not replace one with the other.

Convert facing to sitting

For this site's workflow, take the outward-facing bearing at the relevant building entrance. That entrance measurement is an input convention here, not a universal classical rule about which side of every building defines facing. In the example, the outward-facing value is 90 degrees, measured clockwise from true north at 0 degrees. The sitting direction is the opposite bearing, 270 degrees. The calculator uses that opposite direction to identify the house trigram.

This is why entering a sitting bearing into a field that asks for facing can reverse the house result. The 24-Mountain layer divides the circle into 24 sectors, 15 degrees each, with a 7.5-degree half-width around each centre. Those degree boundaries are a modern geometric definition. They help the calculator report a stable measured position; they are not an additional classical prediction.

If a reading is close to a boundary, repeat it away from metal and electrical interference and keep the uncertainty range. When the range crosses a boundary, the result should remain provisional. A settled personal Kua number does not become uncertain just because the house bearing needs another measurement.

Compare groups before direction labels

After calculating the personal Kua, note the East or West group. Then calculate the house trigram from the sitting direction and note its group. In the worked example, Kan is East group and Dui is West group, so the calculator labels the person-house relation as a mismatch. That label describes the traditional classification used by the site. It does not diagnose a home or decide whether anyone should move.

Only after the two inputs are separated should you look at the personal eight directions. The example's personal chart lists North as Fu Wei, East as Tian Yi, Southeast as Sheng Qi and South as Yan Nian, with the remaining four labels on the other directions. Treat those labels as traditional categories for a reversible comparison. Check daylight, ventilation, noise, access, fire safety and the actual needs of the people using the room.

State the limits clearly

The source-checked Kua table covers 1504 through 2043. The authority record does not fill in a source for later three-yuan starting points or settle every year-boundary convention beyond the site's stated Li Chun rule. Near Li Chun, provide an exact time; if the time is unknown on a day that crosses the term, keep the personal Kua undecided.

A compass page can locate a facing and sitting pair. It does not inspect a floor plan, measure a building centre, perform form analysis or provide construction and safety advice. Keep the personal Kua, house facing, compass geometry and real-world evidence in their own layers. That separation is the practical skill this example is meant to teach.

Does my house facing change my personal Kua number?

No. Personal Kua comes from the birth-based table. House Gua comes from the sitting direction opposite the outward-facing bearing. A new bearing changes the house comparison only.

Should I enter the facing or sitting direction?

Enter the outward-facing bearing requested by the calculator. The tool converts it to the opposite sitting direction for the house Gua. Do not reverse it yourself first.

Is the Kua number Luo Shu numerology?

This tutorial uses the number as the Eight Mansions table's palace index. It does not treat the number as a score or make a separate Luo Shu numerology prediction.

What if the compass reading is near a 24-Mountain boundary?

Repeat the measurement, record the north reference and keep the uncertainty range. If it crosses a boundary, treat the house result as provisional while the personal Kua remains a separate calculation.
